Teamsters rally for fair contract at U

Members of Teamsters Local 320 and supporters rallied Friday on the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus for a fair contract for maintenance, food service and other workers.
“I’ve got a message from over 1,500 Teamsters,” said Brian Aldes, secretary-treasurer and principal officer of Local 320. “The Teamsters will not back down, rain or shine.”
The union has authorized a strike if necessary. The next negotiations session is Nov. 27.
Groups joining the demonstration included members of other unions, 15Now Minnesota and Students for a Democratic Society.
“This is about $15. And this is about more than wages. This is about protecting our civil rights. This is about protecting our collective bargaining rights. This is about the opportunity to earn a living wage. Teamsters Local 320 will not back down,” the union said on its Facebook page.
