Black Friday protest at Walmart to push for $15 wage

A coalition of labor, faith and community groups advocating a $15 minimum wage at Walmart and in St. Paul will take their campaign to the giant retailer’s University Avenue store on Black Friday.
They will rally Friday, Nov. 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. outside the Walmart store at 1540 University Ave. W., St. Paul. Speakers will include low-wage workers and community supporters.
“Following Target’s announcement to raise wages to at least $15 an hour for all employees nationwide, workers and consumers call on Walmart to follow suit,” organizers said. “The coalition advocating a $15 minimum wage in St. Paul points to Walmart as an example of why the city should mandate a $15 minimum wage to force notorious poverty-wage employers like Walmart to pay living wages.”
Last July, Minneapolis became the first community in Minnesota to adopt an ordinance setting a $15 minimum wage.
