Workday Minnesota is the latest development in a long-term communications partnership between the Labor Education Service, University of Minnesota, and the working people of the state and their labor organizations. Marked by innovation, this partnership began in the 1980s with Minnesota At Work, one of the first labor cable television series in the U.S., and continued through the present as computers and the Internet have changed the way we communicate.
Workday Minnesota does not reflect the views of any institution or organization but rather seeks to be a news and information source that combines journalistic ethics and practices with a focus on the lives and concerns of working people. Our admitted bias is that we present the world of events and issues through the prism of social and economic justice and the dignity of work. We offer Workday Minnesota as an alternative to the world of corporate-dominated media.

Howard Kling, Project Director
Howard grew up in a working class home and is still trying to figure out how to be an activist, academic, videographer, playwright, labor educator and some sort of radical while being reasonable, keeping this cool job and getting anything done at all. He's confused a lot. He is the director of the Labor Education Service which has been serving working people in Minnesota for more than 50 years. Howard has been a film and video professional for more than 20 years. He earned an MA/ A.B.D. in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a concentration in theater and American working class literature. Truth is, he didn't get that illustrious Ph.D. because he became too involved in organizing a teaching assistant's union and then became a labor/community organizer instead. Never mind how the film/video thing happened. He is a member of IATSE Local 219, playwright/director of Solidarity Kids Theater, and president of the Union Producers and Programmers Network. Email Howard Kling.
Barb Kucera, Editor
Got an idea for a story for Workday Minnesota? Spotted an error or a misplaced comma? Then you want to talk to Barb. She's been a writer and editor since grade school days, when she launched her own family newspaper that included, among other things, an analysis of the 1968 presidential election. Stints in the “mainstream” media and a 14-year tenure as editor of the Union Advocate, the AFL-CIO newspaper in St. Paul, followed. She's now pleased to be in cyberspace, although some would say she's been spacey for a long time. Email Barb Kucera.
