‘Count Every Vote’ rally Monday

A ‘count very vote’ rally will be held Monday, Dec. 11, at noon at the state Capitol in St. Paul.

The rally, sponsored by the St. Paul NAACP, is being held in conjunction with noon rallies in Florida and across the nation. Rally speakers will include Bernard Brommer, president of the Minnesota AFL-CIO.

In particular, the NAACP is concerned that some African-American voters may have been disenfranchised in Florida. It cites statistics indicating that throughout Florida, the more African-American and Democratic a precinct, the more likely it was to have a high rate of invalidated votes. The Minnesota AFL-CIO is publicizing the rally to members. The federation also is encouraging people to show support by flying the U.S. flag and wearing “Count Every Vote” buttons and stickers.

For more information on the rally, call Victoria Davis or Ora Lee Patterson, St. Paul NAACP volunteers, 651-227-5199, or Diane O’Brien, Minnesota AFL-CIO, 651-227-7647.
